The Holy Spirit (v2)
God's Holy Spirit, from above, attempts to light the human spirit. A nearly black background signifies the seeming darkness in our lives without Christ. The bottom wick turns away from the light representing reluctance because we don't understand the help His Spirit offers.
Two candles represent the Holy Spirit and human spirit. The candle towards the top of the painting symbolizes God's Holy Spirit. The candle towards the bottom of the painting corresponds to man's spirit. God's Holy Spirit, from above, attempts to light the human spirit. A nearly black background signifies the seeming darkness in our lives without Christ. The bottom wick turns away from the light. That's common to humanity. We don't understand the joy and assistance God offers.
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
(John 1:5)
Prints most likely display some brushwork and canvas texture. Paint was brushed on relatively quickly with thin spots and brush strokes that emphasize shape of the candles and activity in the dark background. The digital image caught some of the surface light and shadow.
